Liberty Car Loans: Broker Policy and Evidence
Check Liberty car loan availability, consumer vehicle purpose, borrower evidence, security and submission route before presenting a scenario.

Liberty car loans include Australian consumer vehicle finance through accredited brokers. For a personal-use purchase, start with the Flexible or Fresh start car-loan route and establish the vehicle’s purpose before collecting the file. A business-use vehicle needs a separate commercial assessment.
Confirm the Consumer Vehicle Route
Liberty’s consumer car-loan route is the Liberty Asset Loan (Motor and Caravan), despite the word “asset” in its formal name. As at 3 October 2026, its target market determination, starting 5 October 2025, identifies Secure Funding Pty Ltd as issuer.
Secure Funding trades as Liberty Financial and holds Australian Credit Licence 388133.
The determination allows distribution through accredited brokers. Its target customers include up to two individuals who are Australian citizens or permanent residents living in Australia. Credit assessment and eligibility criteria still apply.
Liberty’s car-loan range separates personal-use and business-use options. Record who will borrow, who will own the vehicle and what the vehicle will mainly do. Self-employment describes the borrower’s income source, so it does not by itself establish a business purpose.
For mixed use, describe the personal travel and business activities separately. Include the expected pattern of use and any proposed business ownership. Obtain a written product classification from Liberty before selecting the application route.
Route predominantly commercial scenarios to the Liberty business asset-finance assessment, with the asset-finance structure guide for business borrowing arrangements.
Assess the Borrower and Purchase
Assess the client’s current repayment capacity alongside the proposed vehicle purchase. As at 3 October 2026, Liberty’s application assessment considers income adequacy, existing debt, employment stability and credit history.
Record the applicant’s identity and residency status. Reconcile declared income with supporting records and capture living expenses, dependants, credit limits and existing repayments. For adverse credit, record the event, its date, whether it is resolved and the client’s present repayment conduct.
Liberty’s Fresh start car loans consider poor credit and variable income. The page names self-employed and casual workers among potential borrowers and also describes refinancing an existing car loan. Those descriptions identify scenarios for assessment, without guaranteeing acceptance.
The published product differences affect the proposal.
| Product | Published maximum amount | Published maximum term | Borrower-age condition |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flexible car loan | $100,000 | 7 years | Applicants under 23 are limited to $25,000 |
| Fresh start car loan | $50,000 | 5 years | Applicants under 23 are limited to $25,000 |
These are Liberty’s advertised limits at the section date. Both products accept new and used vehicles. A larger advertised limit does not establish the client’s approved amount.
Record the purchase price, cash contribution and requested finance separately. For example, a hypothetical 22-year-old seeking $30,000 under either product exceeds the published age-based limit. A $5,000 contribution would reduce that request to $25,000, before any financed costs, but would not establish approval.
Identify a dealer purchase, private sale or refinance at the outset. For refinancing, collect the existing contract and a current payout figure. For a purchase with existing finance, distinguish the seller’s debt payout from a refinance of the client’s own loan.
Check the Vehicle and Security
Record enough vehicle detail to establish what Liberty would take as security and how the seller can transfer it. As at 3 October 2026, Liberty’s Flexible car-loan page limits vehicle age at the end of a balloon loan to eight years.
A balloon is the larger payment due when the term ends. In a hypothetical proposal, a four-year-old car with a five-year balloon term would be nine years old at expiry. That proposal exceeds the published balloon age limit.
Keep these facts with the vehicle proposal.
- Make, model, manufacture year and vehicle identification number.
- Odometer reading, condition and any modifications or unusual vehicle use.
- Purchase price and the available valuation information.
- Registered owner, registration details and seller identity.
- Existing financier and payout amount, where applicable.
- Proposed insurance and when cover will begin.
Liberty’s car-buying guidance directs private buyers to establish ownership and roadworthiness. It also recommends checking the Personal Property Securities Register (PPSR) for existing finance. Retain the search result with the vehicle details and resolve any security interest before treating the seller as entitled to the full settlement proceeds.
Before a purchase commitment, obtain written acceptance of an unusual vehicle or a proposed valuation basis that affects the finance amount. Keep the applicable insurance and registration conditions with that decision. An acceptable borrower does not establish acceptable vehicle security.
Prepare and Route the Application
Prepare the borrower evidence and vehicle proposal together so the application describes one consistent transaction. As at 3 October 2026, Liberty’s car-loan guidance says it generally requests bank statements and proof of income and assesses unusual circumstances individually.
Use this preparation list to organise the file, then apply the document requirements issued for the selected product and applicant.
| Evidence group | Information to prepare |
|---|---|
| Identity and residency | Applicant identification and records supporting the declared citizenship or permanent residency |
| Income | Evidence of the income relied on, such as employment payslips or self-employed income records |
| Bank conduct | Bank statements showing income receipts, regular expenses and existing debt payments |
| Commitments | Current liability balances, limits and repayment obligations |
| Purchase | Dealer quotation or private-sale agreement, seller details and cash contribution |
| Vehicle | Registration, ownership evidence, vehicle details and relevant condition records |
| Payout and settlement | Existing financier’s payout statement where applicable and proposed insurance details |
This is a file-preparation list. Exact statement periods and income-document combinations come from the selected application requirements.
For the broker route, follow these steps.
- Establish the client’s purpose and proposed consumer product. Separate any classification or unusual-security question from a formal application.
- Use Liberty’s official business-partner login for your accredited access. If accreditation or the motor submission route needs arranging, call Liberty on 13 11 33.
- Provide the borrower and purchase evidence through the motor-finance submission route assigned to your accreditation. Keep the application reference and the conditions Liberty returns with the file.
- Resolve borrower conditions and vehicle acceptance before presenting settlement as ready. Reconcile the final finance amount with the purchase price, contribution and any payout.
For a mixed-use or unusual-vehicle enquiry, describe the expected use. Name the borrower and vehicle owner, then supply the vehicle specifications, seller type and requested amount. Add the term, any balloon and the precise question requiring a decision.
Keep Liberty’s written response with the proposal so the final submission follows the agreed route.
