DocuSign is an electronic signature platform for sending documents to clients and keeping evidence of their signing. DocuSign pricing for a brokerage depends on sender seats, envelope volume and the identity or automation controls the practice needs. Personal suits occasional sending, Standard adds team controls and Business Pro adds more complex forms.
A borrower can sign a document sent through DocuSign without paying or opening an account. Your brokerage’s sending subscription is a separate cost. The signature platform records the transaction, while the lender or document owner determines whether that signing method is acceptable.
DocuSign Pricing and Plan Limits
DocuSign’s Australian eSignature plans charge for sending capacity, with team subscriptions billed per user. Its Australian pricing page, accessed on 3 October 2026, shows Australian dollars and says additional tax can apply. Obtain an order or checkout total stating goods and services tax (GST), the billing period and the renewal terms.
| Plan | Sending Allowance | Practical Fit |
|---|---|---|
| Personal | One user, five envelopes a month | Occasional standalone sending |
| Standard | Annual plan: 100 envelopes per user per year | Shared templates and team administration |
| Business Pro | Annual plan: 100 envelopes per user per year | Bulk sending, signer attachments and more advanced fields |
| Enhanced | Custom envelope allowance by sales quote | Larger teams or specific administration requirements |
An envelope contains one or more documents for one or more signers. Sending it uses the allowance even if nobody completes it. A document count therefore isn’t the same as an envelope count.

Separate Subscription and Operating Costs
DocuSign application programming interface (API) pricing uses a separate developer-plan structure. The Australian developer page lists Starter beginning at 40 envelopes a month, with Intermediate and Advanced beginning at 100. Enhanced developer plans have a five-user minimum and a quote route.
The free developer account is a demonstration environment. Its envelopes aren’t valid for legal purposes. Production requires an eligible plan and DocuSign’s go-live process, so a free sandbox doesn’t fund a live brokerage connection.
DocuSign’s developer FAQ distinguishes web-app sending plans from API plans. Its eSignature comparison table also lists APIs among included capabilities. For a custom connection, put production API sending rights and volume into the order, rather than budgeting from that broad feature label.
Identity verification can add a charge for each attempt, including an unsuccessful attempt where the purchased terms count it. SMS delivery is a different service from verifying a signer’s identity. Allow for automation-provider licences and the work to map borrower records into templates.
Signing documents yourself is free through DocuSign’s signing account. Collecting signatures from clients is the paid sending use case. A sending trial is temporary, so it doesn’t establish the cost or capacity of a continuing practice workflow.
Signing Workflow for Broker Files
A broker sends a file by assigning recipients and fields, then choosing the authentication and routing rules for that envelope. The following synthetic example uses a fictional brokerage consent form for borrowers Alex and Sam. Lender-owned forms follow their own acceptance requirements.
- Prepare the approved consent wording as a PDF or reusable template. Assign separate borrower roles and signature fields. Standard adds shared templates, while Business Pro can lock templates against changes.
- Enter Alex’s and Sam’s own names and email addresses. Select the required identity method before sending. An access code adds a separate entry step, but it doesn’t prove that a government identity document was checked.
- Set Alex first and Sam second if the document needs sequential signing. DocuSign’s signing tutorial describes automatic routing to the next recipient after the previous person signs. Parallel signing suits documents that permit either borrower to act first.
- Send the envelope and let each borrower review the wording before adopting a signature and completing the required fields. The recipients use their signing links. They don’t need paid sender licences.
- Set reminders and expiry to match the actual deadline. The account administrator sets defaults, so a sender’s envelope settings must reflect the brokerage’s configuration. A reminder doesn’t override an expired envelope.
- Correct a wrong email address while the envelope remains in progress. DocuSign’s correction guidance assigns this control to the sender or owner. An authorised colleague needs appropriate shared-access permissions.
- When both borrowers complete their actions, retain the final PDF and Certificate of Completion together. Record the envelope identifier in the client file so the consent and its evidence remain connected.
Correcting recipient details and changing signed wording are different operations. DocuSign’s tutorial says a signed contract cannot be replaced by editing its wording. If the wording needs changing after signing, use a new signing process and preserve the earlier record.
An assistant who only needs to monitor outstanding signatures needs less access than someone sending on a broker’s behalf. DocuSign documents Manage, Edit and Send shared-access levels. Edit includes correction of in-progress envelopes, while Send adds sending on behalf of the other user.
Identity, Audit Trail and Acceptance
DocuSign’s Certificate of Completion records signing events and their technical evidence. Its certificate guidance describes the envelope identifier, signer information and event timestamps. The certificate also records the applicable electronic disclosure.
For Alex and Sam’s illustrative file, retain evidence of each recipient’s sent, viewed and signed events. Read the recorded security method beside that recipient. Email delivery, an access code and document-based identity verification establish different evidence.
The certificate can include the internet protocol (IP) address used during signing. DocuSign says that address depends on the device’s internet connection. It doesn’t establish the borrower’s precise physical location or prove that a witness stood beside them.
DocuSign describes tamper sealing as part of its electronic-signature evidence. Keep the completed electronic file, rather than relying solely on a printed signature image. Match its envelope identifier to the certificate and preserve the downloaded original.
Determine Acceptance Before Sending
The document owner determines the required signing process for each form. A brokerage consent form and a lender’s loan agreement are different documents. Acceptance of the first doesn’t establish acceptance of the second.
For a brokerage-owned form, the practice’s approved procedure must specify electronic consent and the required authentication. For a lender-owned form, use the lender’s current instructions for that exact form and version. Record the instruction date, required identity method and any witnessing requirement in the file.
If a lender issues its own signing invitation, follow that process. Uploading the same document to your brokerage account doesn’t establish that the lender accepts the resulting evidence. Resolve a document-specific exception with its owner before sending it for signature.
Property documents can carry separate verification of identity requirements. A DocuSign completion certificate doesn’t by itself establish that the required property-file identification or witnessing process occurred.
Keep Evidence Beyond the Sending Account
DocuSign’s privacy guidance describes document purging separately from retaining audit-log evidence. Purging can remove documents and their field data while retaining an audit log. The presence of a certificate therefore doesn’t guarantee that the signed document remains available.
Export completed files and certificates into the brokerage’s controlled record system before any retention or account-closure process removes access. Assign a person to own exports and retrieval after staff leave. Keep records for the period required by the practice’s documented obligations.
Integrations and Team Administration
DocuSign connects through official apps, automation connectors or a custom API, while downloading files is manual transfer. These methods move different information. A customer relationship management (CRM) logo doesn’t establish that your borrower fields, documents and signing events all synchronise.
| Connection | Method and Direction | Account or Setup Condition |
|---|---|---|
| Google Workspace | Official add-on sends selected documents to DocuSign and saves signed files to Drive | Connect the signing account and configure the add-on |
| Microsoft Power Automate | Official connector creates or updates envelopes and receives configured events | DocuSign Connect must be enabled for its Connect trigger |
| Salesforce | Official integration sends and tracks agreements within Salesforce | Australian eSignature pricing routes Salesforce integration to sales |
| Brokerage custom software | API sends borrower data and retrieves signing records | Eligible production API plan and application go-live |
| Client-file storage without a connector | Manual download and upload of PDF and certificate | Staff must perform and record both transfers |
Microsoft’s connector documentation lists the standard DocuSign connector as Standard for Power Automate. That classification doesn’t establish the licence needed for every flow around it. Other connectors and the selected automation service can create separate costs.
The Connect trigger registers a webhook, which is an event notification sent from DocuSign to the automation. It isn’t enabled by default. Design the flow to associate completion events with the correct borrower file and retain the final document after completion.
Control Team Access and Departures
Team administration needs named staff accounts and permissions appropriate to each role. Shared access can let a colleague monitor or manage envelopes during leave. DocuSign’s administrator guidance explains that the administrator can establish sharing or permit users to manage it themselves.
For templates, assign an owner for the approved wording and its replacement versions. Separate permission to use a template from responsibility for changing it. A shared template is useful only if staff send the current form to the intended recipients.
DocuSign’s Australian plan table places single sign-on, organisation management and document-retention policies on its sales route. These requirements can justify Enhanced terms even when ordinary team sending is sufficient. Its Enhanced listing also includes 24/7 live technical support.
DocuSign publishes security and privacy information through its Trust Center. Use that information to assess handling of sensitive borrower documents and the contracted storage arrangements. Don’t assume that an Australian billing address establishes Australian data residency.
DocuSign Fit and Alternatives
DocuSign fits a brokerage when the accepted signing process, required evidence and sending allowance match its files. Personal is a practical choice for one sender with occasional consent documents. Standard suits a team that needs shared templates and controlled access without Business Pro’s advanced forms.
Business Pro makes sense when signer attachments, bulk sending or locked templates are genuine workflow requirements. Buying it solely for higher sending volume doesn’t follow from the published annual allowance. Its annual envelope allowance is the same as Standard’s.
For a synthetic practice sending 20 envelopes each month, annual demand is 240 envelopes before resends. That exceeds one Standard sender’s 100-envelope annual allowance. The practice needs additional-envelope terms or a different agreement, even if every envelope contains just one document.
Higher-volume teams can also evaluate Intelligent Agreement Management (IAM). DocuSign’s Australian IAM page lists a three-user minimum for Standard and Professional, with unlimited envelopes sent through the web app. That web-app condition matters when your practice sends through an API.
The complete cost decision includes purchased capacity and the identity attempts your forms require. Add connector licences, implementation work and the contracted support level. A lower base subscription doesn’t establish a lower brokerage cost when those required services differ.
Compare DocuSign alternatives when the accepted identity method is unavailable on suitable terms, the required connection cannot carry your file data or administration costs exceed the practice’s budget. The separate Adobe Sign and DocuSign comparison covers that two-product choice.
For renewal, choose the plan against the documents you actually send and the people authorised to send them. Put the required evidence, envelope allowance and export arrangements into the same order. That gives the brokerage a signing process it can operate and records it can retrieve.
