Adobe Sign vs DocuSign for Mortgage Brokers 2026

Compare Adobe Sign and DocuSign for mortgage-broker files by pricing, lender acceptance, identity controls, audit evidence and workflow fit.

Updated

Adobe Sign vs DocuSign comes down to whether you need PDF preparation alongside signing or a dedicated signing service with shared templates. Choose Adobe when Acrobat already handles your document preparation and its signing tier meets your identity requirements. Choose DocuSign when its team controls and official document-sending apps fit your brokerage.

A lender-issued signing process can decide the choice for loan documents before either subscription enters the picture. Your own engagement letters and consents are a separate buying decision.

Quick Verdict

Adobe suits a brokerage that edits and redacts PDFs before sending them for signature. DocuSign suits a team that wants reusable signing templates and a service built around sending, tracking and completing agreements.

Adobe Sign is now branded Adobe Acrobat Sign. Acrobat Pro includes some signing tools, while Acrobat Sign Solutions is the quote-based product for advanced authentication and governed workflows. A comparison with DocuSign must identify which Adobe product it means.

For a representative solo broker, assume one sender, eight two-person signing packs a month and an annual term. Use ordinary email delivery, with PDF preparation required and no business-system connector. Acrobat Pro is the practical Adobe starting point, while DocuSign Standard accommodates the assumed annual sending volume.

For a representative team, assume five senders and eight packs per sender each month. Add shared templates, phone authentication for both signers and an official Microsoft integration. Adobe’s phone authentication requires Sign Solutions, so this scenario needs an Adobe quote with authentication transactions included.

DocuSign’s own loan-document delivery by a lender doesn’t require your brokerage to buy a sending plan. Neither product’s signing capability gives blanket lender acceptance or automatically satisfies verification of identity requirements.

A price-led winner requires the same Australian user count, annual term, sending volume and authentication method. Include the same connector and support needs too. The comparison below covers plan structure and documented workflows as at October 2026.

Plans and Total Cost

Adobe combines PDF software and signing at its Acrobat tiers, while DocuSign prices its self-service signing plans per user. Sign Solutions and DocuSign Enhanced plans use sales quotes for more advanced requirements.

Australian prices need a common tax basis. Adobe’s Australian team pricing includes goods and services tax (GST), while DocuSign labels its displayed Australian-dollar prices as subject to additional tax. Compare final GST-inclusive annual commitments, including add-ons, before treating a lower advertised amount as a saving.

DocuSign Personal’s five-envelope monthly allowance is below the solo example’s eight packs. Standard and Business Pro annual plans include up to 100 envelopes per user per year. The example uses 96 per sender, leaving four for replacements or extra files.

A monthly Standard or Business Pro plan has a different allowance of up to 10 envelopes per user per month. Annual and monthly allowances aren’t interchangeable. Additional envelopes have a usage charge or can be purchased ahead.

Adobe’s phone authentication is a premium, per-recipient resource purchased through sales. The five-sender example produces 480 packs and 960 recipient authentications a year. A quote needs that authentication volume as well as agreement sends.

DocuSign’s identity-verification add-on is separate from ordinary sending. SMS delivery of a signing link also differs from phone authentication that gates document access. Specify the required method so neither quote substitutes a cheaper notification for the identity control you need.

Application programming interface (API) access, business-system connectors and implementation work can change the total. DocuSign’s production API use needs an API-enabled plan and its go-live process. Adobe API access also depends on the e-signature entitlement.

Switching work includes rebuilding templates, mapping signature fields and moving completed evidence into your file store. Budget staff time for permissions and onboarding too. Those costs depend on your actual templates and systems, so a subscription comparison alone doesn’t establish them.

Signing, Identity and Lender Acceptance

Both products support multi-recipient signing. Advanced authentication and post-send changes depend on the product tier and agreement state.

Consider an illustrative two-page brokerage engagement letter for fictional clients Alex and Jordan. Each client has a separate email address and a signature field. The broker sends Alex’s copy first, then Jordan’s, with a reminder if a signature remains outstanding.

Remind and finishManage-page reminders and status tracking; download the completed PDF and audit reportAccount, template or sender reminder settings; completed document and Certificate of Completion

In the engagement-letter example, ordinary email access and phone authentication are different controls. Phone authentication shows access to the nominated number. A government identity-document check is a further process, with different evidence and charging.

The acceptance question is who owns the document and how they require it signed. A broker’s engagement letter, a lender’s loan contract and a witnessed mortgage aren’t interchangeable signing jobs. Verification of identity explains the separate identity task.

Macquarie’s home-loan process, as at October 2026, directs approved borrowers to sign loan documents through DocuSign. Use the lender’s issued link for that workflow. See Macquarie’s home-loan application process.

Macquarie’s separate account and Cash and Wrap signature guidance, as at October 2026, lists both Adobe Sign and DocuSign for some forms. Its signature requirements include a completion certificate and the specified client or adviser submission channel. That guidance doesn’t cover home-loan contracts.

The account guidance excludes specified third-party, certified or witnessed forms, including broker transfer requests. These document-specific exceptions override the general provider list. A provider’s ability to collect a signature doesn’t remove an owner’s exception.

Audit Evidence, Security and Administration

Adobe’s audit report and DocuSign’s Certificate of Completion record the signing process, but identity evidence and retention controls need their own plan comparison.

Evidence checkAdobeDocuSign
Recipient and identity eventsAudit report records activity; phone authentication records use of a partly masked numberCertificate records recipient and envelope events, including enabled phone-authentication history
TimestampsAgreement history and audit report record signing activityCertificate records event timestamps and disclosure acceptance
IntegritySign Solutions documents tamper-evident signaturesDownloaded documents receive a tamper-evident seal
Download and accessManage page has PDF and audit-report downloadsCustomer can download signed documents and completion certificates during the subscription
Extra identity evidenceSigner Identity Report is enterprise-only and must be enabled separatelyIdentity-verification evidence depends on the enabled identity product and workflow
Retention and exportSign Solutions has account or group retention rules; Acrobat Standard and Pro don’t support those rulesAutomated document-retention policies are an Enhanced feature; downloaded PDFs can be retained in your own file store

Adobe’s Signer Identity Report is distinct from its audit report. It can retain government-ID or digital-identity input, but Adobe says this collection is off by default. Its download access is restricted, so a staff member who sees an agreement doesn’t automatically see all identity evidence.

DocuSign distinguishes uploaded document content from transaction data. Its transaction-data policy says signing records continue after the subscription ends. Customers can download documents and certificates during the subscription, but purging a document doesn’t erase the service’s transaction record.

For team administration, Adobe Sign Solutions has user groups, group administrators and permission-based sharing. DocuSign Standard and Business Pro include user and group permissions. Centralised organisation management and single sign-on are Enhanced features.

Compare those with Sign Solutions, rather than assuming a basic PDF licence has equivalent controls.

Adobe’s Australian team page includes round-the-clock technical support. DocuSign places round-the-clock live technical support in Enhanced plans. If live assistance is a purchasing condition, include it in both compared packages.

For data handling, Adobe Sign Solutions retention rules govern completed agreements and related data. Group rules can override account rules. Set automatic deletion to preserve evidence for your brokerage’s required retention period.

DocuSign’s Australian data region supports eSignature. Its April 2026 residency policy says limited transaction data, authentication and integrations can involve processing outside the selected region. Agreement storage in Australia doesn’t mean every data flow stays in Australia.

Establish the account region when provisioning, because existing agreement data can’t be moved between regions afterward.

Integrations and Daily Workflow

Both products have official Microsoft integrations, while a brokerage’s own customer relationship management (CRM) connection needs an exact connector or API method.

An official app is a connector, not proof that every broker CRM has a native integration. A marketplace listing also doesn’t establish two-way synchronisation of contacts, attachments or signing status. The named Microsoft examples provide a documented route without promising a connection to your broker software.

For Alex and Jordan’s engagement letter, the manual route works in either product. Create the PDF from your approved template, upload it and send it to both recipients. Track outstanding signatures in the signing service, then download the final document and its completion evidence into the client file.

Retrieve that pack from your controlled file store when the lender, auditor or client needs it. Keep the signing-service agreement identifier beside the file record so staff can distinguish it from a cancelled or superseded version.

Before the signing stage, Bulma helps you choose lenders and prepare the scenario. Policy Advisor answers questions across 52+ lenders with the lender’s wording behind each answer. Scenario Planner ranks lender fit and borrowing power, with conditions and required documents, so the signing pack follows a researched lending path.

Choose Adobe Sign or DocuSign

Choose Adobe when PDF preparation and signing belong in the same staff workflow. Acrobat Pro can suit the solo engagement-letter scenario. Choose Sign Solutions when advanced authentication, controlled routing or retention rules are required.

Choose DocuSign Standard when shared templates and ordinary team sending cover the job. Business Pro fits required bulk sending or its advanced form features. Enhanced is the route for enterprise permissions, retention policies or a quoted business-system integration.

Neither subscription solves a document-owner restriction. Where a lender issues its own signing link or requires a specific witnessed process, use that route. Buying a different provider doesn’t change the required document or channel.

Before an annual commitment or migration, pilot one authorised fictional engagement letter with two staff-controlled recipients in the selected configuration. Test the required identity method and correct a deliberate email error before anyone signs. Complete the file and export its signed PDF with completion evidence.

A second staff member must retrieve that pack from the brokerage’s file store without relying on the original sender’s login. Confirm that the certificate identifies both recipients and the required authentication events. Record the retention setting and preserve existing signed packs before retiring the old account.

Commit to the package that meets your actual document and identity requirements, then keep the signed document and its evidence together in the client file.
