CSV Converter

Convert tables on your device, check every column and download the format you need.

Your table

Up to 20 MB. Nothing is uploaded.

Paste a table from Excel or edit extracted text. Apply source to replace preview edits.

Reading options
Input delimiter

For delimited text. Choose Tab for pasted Excel cells or extracted PDF text.

File encoding

Text files only. Reapply the file after changing its encoding.

Structured field mapping

One per line: Client ID=/id. Use /address/postcode for a nested field.

Contact, calendar and QIF input require an explicit map. Available fields appear after reading the source.

CSV and Excel Conversions

This CSV converter keeps table values as text so you can move columns without guessing their data types. Choose a local file or paste a table, select its format and apply the source. Nothing is uploaded or saved between visits.

Comma-separated values (CSV) files can use commas, semicolons, tabs or pipes here. Quoted commas stay inside their cells, doubled quotation marks become one quote and quoted line breaks stay in the same field. The CSV format description explains these quoting rules.

For an Excel-to-CSV conversion, choose an XLSX workbook and select the worksheet. As displayed retains formatted values, including zeros added by a number format. Stored values uses the underlying values, so an Excel date can appear as a serial number.

Formulas use their saved results and are never recalculated. A formula without a saved result stops conversion. Other worksheets need separate conversions, hidden cells remain included and merged cells must be unmerged first.

For CSV-to-Excel conversion, download XLSX. Every cell is written as literal text, preserving identifiers such as 00123 and preventing formula-like text from becoming a workbook formula. Amounts and dates also remain text, ready for deliberate conversion in your spreadsheet.

CSV formula protection adds an apostrophe to potentially executable values and displays each change below its source cell. This includes negative numbers and some leading whitespace. Exact text preserves those cells, but opening that CSV in a spreadsheet can execute formulas.

Use XLSX when you need literal spreadsheet cells without prefix changes. The Open Worldwide Application Security Project's CSV injection guidance explains why CSV protection depends on the receiving software and can change after saving a file again.

JSON, XML and Plain Text Tables

A JavaScript Object Notation (JSON)-to-CSV conversion accepts an array of flat records and keeps the union of their column names. Missing fields and null values become empty cells. JSON exports write all values as strings, so a value such as 00123 retains its zeros.

Nested records need an explicit field map. Enter one output column per line, such as Client ID=/id or Postcode=/address/postcode. Select scalar values inside nested objects or lists, and review the count of source fields excluded by your map.

Extensible Markup Language (XML) input accepts a root containing record elements with named fields. Nested XML fields require a map, attributes use an @ prefix and text alongside attributes uses #text. Repeated field names and mixed text with nested elements stop conversion instead of losing values.

XML output uses a table root, row elements and named field elements. It preserves column labels as attributes, including labels that cannot be XML tag names. It is a flat table format, so it does not recreate an original document's hierarchy.

For a TXT-to-CSV conversion, choose the delimiter used in the text file. Paste tab-separated cells from Excel with Tab selected. Fixed-width reports need tab separators between columns before you apply the source.

Text files support UTF-8, UTF-16 LE and Windows-1252 encoding. Change the encoding and reapply the local file if letters look wrong. Dates stay as source text during ordinary conversion, so an ambiguous numeric date is never silently reordered.

Checking the Converted Rows

Check the converted row count, headers and representative values before enabling a download. This CSV validator stops on uneven rows, malformed quoting or duplicate headers. It accepts up to 5,000 data rows and 100 columns, with a 20 MB file limit.

The fictional example contains three rows and four columns. Its client identifiers are 00123, 00007 and 00008. With CSV protection enabled, two cells change: -45.50 and =1+1 each receive an apostrophe.

Use the row and column controls to inspect the whole table. Edit a cell to correct its source value, then check the exported text shown below any protected cell. Downloads include every remaining row and column, including those outside the current preview page.

Removing a row changes the download and produces a removal count. Applying the source again replaces preview edits and restores the source rows. Changing source text or reading options hides the previous preview until you apply those changes.

Compare long identifiers, quoted descriptions and empty cells with the original. JSON numbers that exceed safe integer precision stop conversion. Quote identifiers in the original JSON when their exact digits matter.

Formats That Need a Different Tool

Table conversion preserves an existing grid of values. PDF extraction must first infer that grid from text positions, while contact and calendar files need property mapping. Accounting imports also need transaction meanings that column names alone cannot establish.

SourceConversion boundary
Scanned PDFNeeds optical character recognition before text extraction.
Legacy XLS or encrypted workbookSave an authorised, unlocked XLSX copy first.
Nested or repeated recordsMap scalar fields explicitly. Repeated XML fields need source restructuring.
Accounting-specific transactionsUse a mapped bank QIF export or the receiving system’s dedicated import.

This converter does not retain workbook styling, charts or formulas. It exports table values. Keep the original document when its formatting, calculations or source history matters.

PDF Tables and Specialised Exports

A text-based PDF can become CSV after you check the extracted columns. Choose the PDF, inspect its tab-separated text and correct any joined or split cells before applying it. The free PDF-to-CSV conversion runs on your device and accepts up to 100 pages.

Scans without usable text stop conversion. Multi-column pages, wrapped descriptions and repeated headings can disrupt extraction even when text is selectable. Compare the rows against each page, then remove headings only after identifying the actual data rows.

For CSV-to-PDF conversion, select Print / Save as PDF after reviewing the table. The browser's print dialog lets you choose Save as PDF. This export includes the whole checked table, with a limit of 500 rows and 12 columns.

Contact-card files (VCF) and iCalendar files (ICS) require explicit field mapping before CSV export. Available property paths appear under Structured field mapping. Repeated properties retain separate bracketed names, and parameters remain part of their property names.

Calendar events remain one row per source event. Recurrences are not expanded and time zones are not converted. Contact escape sequences remain source text, so compare names and addresses with the original before using the table for an import.

For CSV-to-Quicken Interchange Format (QIF), choose separate date, signed amount and description columns. Select the source date order explicitly. The export writes bank transactions with month/day/year dates, plain signed amounts and one-line descriptions.

QIF input also needs a field map. Split transactions and unsupported record types stop conversion. A QIF bank table does not establish the receiving account, category rules or the requirements of an accounting-specific format.
