Bulma is the better choice for policy research and scenario planning in one workspace, while Cynario suits brokers who want policy answers by email or inside Salestrekker.
Bulma answers lender policy questions across 52+ lenders and quotes the policy wording behind each answer. Describe your client’s scenario once and it groups lenders by policy fit, with borrowing power, conditions and documents for each.
Cynario AI pairs a policy assistant called Charli with a marketing assistant called Alex. Charli answers questions about 40+ residential lenders in chat, or by email without signing up. It also works inside a Salestrekker 2.0 client record.
Research in Context
Bulma is a standalone research workspace, while Cynario brings policy answers into email and the Salestrekker 2.0 customer relationship management (CRM) system. The right choice depends on whether your brokers prefer a dedicated place to research or want answers inside the tools they already have open.
In Bulma, you ask a single policy question or describe the whole client scenario in one conversation. Client details can load from your CRM, uploaded payslips or a fact find. You can then copy an answer with its sources into your file notes or share the conversation with a colleague.
Cynario’s email channel lets a broker send Charli a scenario question from any inbox, with no login. Cynario advertises a reply within 2 minutes. This comparison covers published features, not answer speed.
Inside Salestrekker 2.0, brokers ask Charli from the client file and save structured policy notes to the client record. Cynario’s integrations page lists 35+ lenders for that connection, compared with the 40+ it gives for Charli directly.
| At a glance | Bulma | Cynario |
|---|---|---|
| Main jobs | Policy Advisor for lender policy questions, plus Scenario Planner for lender fit and borrowing power | Charli for policy research, Alex for marketing content and Cynario Reviews for client feedback posts |
| Where you ask | The Bulma workspace, with client details loaded from your CRM, payslips or a fact find | Chat on desktop or mobile, email without a login and inside a Salestrekker 2.0 client file |
| Lender coverage | 52+ residential lenders and about 50 policy areas | 40+ residential lenders, with 35+ listed for the Salestrekker connection |
| Scenario output | Lenders grouped into fits standard policy, fits with conditions and needs an exception, with borrowing power, conditions and documents for each | A structured response on which lenders will look at the scenario, loan-to-value ratio (LVR) position, income shading, postcode eligibility, trust structures and alternative-documentation pathways |
| Borrowing power | Calculated at each lender from that lender’s own servicing inputs | Cynario’s product pages don’t describe a borrowing power calculation |
Choose Bulma if your brokerage wants one place to research policy, plan the scenario and compare borrowing power before choosing a lender. Choose Cynario if your brokers work from their inbox or Salestrekker and want policy answers there without opening another tool.
Evidence Behind Answers
Both products answer from lender policy text instead of the open web, and both cite the policy wording behind an answer. Bulma also shows the lender, the policy area and the date Bulma last updated that policy.
What Each Answer Shows
| Check | Bulma | Cynario |
|---|---|---|
| Source of the answer | Quotes the policy wording it relied on, with the lender and policy area | Cynario’s sign-up page describes each lender’s position “with the policy wording it came from” |
| Policy date | Shows the date Bulma last updated that policy, and alerts you when a policy you’ve asked about changes | Cynario says its lender data updates in real time. Its product pages don’t describe a date on each answer |
| Follow-up questions | Keeps the client’s circumstances in the conversation and asks a short clarifying question when a question is ambiguous | Archives every conversation. Policy Finder gives guided starting points for a client scenario, a policy topic or a lender comparison |
| When policy is silent | A comparison names the lenders whose policy doesn’t address the point | Cynario says Charli won’t make up an answer its lender data doesn’t reference |
| Outside standard policy | Exception pathways, each rated Documented, Precedented or Reported, plus similar past client scenarios and their lender outcomes | Charli reports which alternative-documentation pathways apply and which trust structures lenders accept, with conditions |
Cynario also says Charli checks a scenario against related conditions and edge cases, such as postcode restrictions, before it answers. For every block of 40 policy questions, Charli earns you one continuing professional development (CPD) point. Cynario says the Mortgage & Finance Association of Australia (MFAA) and Finance Brokers Association of Australia (FBAA) recognise those points.
One Fictional File, Three Questions
This fictional file shows how a straightforward rule, a policy exception and a changed fact play out in each product.
In this fictional example, Tom, a casual disability support worker with 14 months in the industry, is buying a $620,000 unit. His $558,000 loan gives an LVR of 90%.
Tom changed employers four months ago. His parents might give him $40,000 towards the deposit.
The straightforward rule is whether a lender accepts casual income after 12 months in the industry. In Bulma, one question checks every covered lender and returns a summary, a side-by-side table and the quoted wording for each lender. In Cynario, the Policy Topic journey compares how lenders treat casual income, with the cited wording behind each position.
The policy exception is Tom’s four months with his new employer. Bulma’s Scenario Planner places each lender in a group by policy fit and lists the conditions and documents to gather. Where a lender would need an exception, Bulma shows any known pathway with its confidence level, so you can judge how far to rely on it.
Cynario’s DealFit response for the same file lists which lenders will look at the scenario, where each sits on LVR and who accepts the casual income at what shading. Its pages don’t describe confidence levels for exceptions.
The changed fact is the $40,000 gift, which lowers the loan to $518,000 and the LVR to about 84%. When you change the LVR in Bulma, it updates the lender list and the borrowing power at each lender. In Cynario, you send Charli the updated scenario.
For source traceability, both products give you the policy wording to check. Bulma adds the policy area and update date beside each quote. For uncertainty, Bulma names the lenders whose policy is silent and labels each exception pathway’s confidence, while Cynario declines to answer beyond its referenced data.
Neither product replaces your assessment. Cynario’s terms require you to confirm Charli’s information with the lender before you submit an application. Bulma’s exception pathways aren’t written policy either, so get the lender’s confirmation first.
Quoted wording you keep for your best interests duty records shows why you chose that lender.
Team and Commercial Fit
Bulma includes policy research and scenario planning on every plan, with generous usage limits and up to five members on Team. Cynario’s sign-up page offers one, three or five seats and unlimited archived conversations, with every feature unlocked during its 21-day trial.
The table compares plan structure as at October 2026.
| Plan terms | Bulma | Cynario |
|---|---|---|
| Seats | Solo for one broker, Team for up to five with extra seats available, and Enterprise with unlimited members | Seat choices of just me, 3 seats or 5 seats |
| Included usage | Generous usage limits for policy and scenario questions on every plan | Unlimited conversations, all archived |
| Lender coverage | 52+ residential lenders on every plan. Enterprise adds custom lender coverage | 40+ residential lender policies |
| Integrations | Client details load from your CRM. Enterprise adds custom integrations | Salestrekker 2.0 client file, email questions and publishing to Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, Google Business Profile and WordPress |
| Team features | Team adds shared history, usage analytics and priority support | The subscriber sets each user’s access and permissions |
| Support | The founder answers every support question. Enterprise adds a dedicated account manager | Henry, an AI assistant in the app, answers questions at any hour. A support team is available through the contact details on Cynario’s website |
| Free trial | 14 days, without a credit card | 21 days with every feature unlocked, without a credit card |
Seat counts line up for a small team. A five-broker brokerage can share research on Bulma’s Team plan or take Cynario’s five-seat option. A larger brokerage or aggregator fits Bulma Enterprise, which has unlimited members and a dedicated account manager.
Cynario’s privacy policy says client data may be processed outside Australia, such as in the United States, where some of its storage providers are located. Check that location against the client-data rules your brokerage follows.
When Marketing Features Matter
Alex matters when your brokerage has no one producing marketing and wants it in the same subscription as policy research. Alex writes social posts, client emails and blog articles in your brand colours, then publishes them to your social channels and WordPress site. Cynario Reviews turns client feedback into posts.
Bulma is a research and scenario planning tool, so marketing stays with the tool or person you already use. If your brokerage already has marketing covered, Alex adds features you won’t use. The research comparison then decides the choice.
Decision by Brokerage
Bulma fits a brokerage that wants quick policy answers and lender choice with borrowing power in one place, especially on harder files. For Cynario, the deciding factor is where your brokers will actually ask the question.
Choose Bulma When
- You want to describe a client’s scenario once and see lenders grouped by policy fit, with borrowing power at each.
- You need wide coverage, with 52+ residential lenders and about 50 policy areas in one place.
- You want each answer to show the quoted wording, the policy area and the date the policy was last updated.
- Your files often fall outside standard policy, and you want exception pathways with a confidence level and similar past scenarios.
- You want the lender list and borrowing power to update when one fact changes, such as the LVR.
- You want support questions answered by the founder of the product.
Choose Cynario When
- Your brokers would rather email a policy question from their phone than open another tool.
- Your brokerage runs on Salestrekker 2.0 and wants policy notes saved straight to the client file.
- You want marketing content and review posts from the same subscription as policy research.
- You want CPD points recorded as you research.
The Drawback of Each
Bulma’s drawback for some teams is that it’s a separate workspace for research and scenario planning, so brokers open Bulma to do that work. It also doesn’t write marketing content. Bulma’s borrowing power figures use each lender’s servicing inputs, and the lender’s own assessment sets the final figure.
Cynario’s drawback is depth on the scenario itself. Its pages don’t describe borrowing power calculations, dated answers or confidence levels for exceptions, and its stated panel is 40+ lenders.
When Using Both Overlaps
Both products answer residential policy questions from lender wording, so running both means paying twice for the same research. You’d also have two places where a client’s scenario and policy notes live.
If your brokerage wants Alex for marketing, use it for that job and keep policy research and scenario planning in one place. For other options to replace Cynario, see Cynario alternatives for mortgage brokers.
Choose Bulma when the deciding question is which lender fits the client and how much each will lend. You can try Bulma free with a 14-day trial and no credit card.
