Annature vs DocuSign for Mortgage Brokers 2026

Choosing Annature or DocuSign for broker files? Compare current Australian costs, identity checks, lender acceptance and audit evidence on one basis.

Annature vs DocuSign comes down to pay-per-envelope signing with local support, or a subscription with the connectors and administration your brokerage needs. Choose Annature for flexible sending and a team without seat charges. Choose DocuSign when its existing Microsoft connections or central administration requirements decide the purchase.

Quick Verdict for Broker Workflows

Annature suits variable signing volumes, while DocuSign suits a brokerage that needs its specific connectors or organisation controls. Neither is suitable for a document whose owner requires another signing or identity process.

This comparison uses published terms as at 3 October 2026. The following fictional workloads use the same documents and identity requirements for both services.

AssumptionSolo brokerFive-person brokerage
SendersOneFive senders sharing one account
DocumentsBrokerage engagement agreement and privacy consent in one envelopeThe same two-document pack
RecipientsTwo adult clients, both signingTwo adult clients, both signing
Annual volume48 envelopes480 envelopes across the account
Identity volume96 checks, one per client per envelope960 checks, one per client per envelope
DeliveryEmail, without paid text-message deliveryEmail, without paid text-message delivery
EvidenceSigned pack, signing certificate and separate identity evidenceThe same records, accessible to an authorised colleague

Annature is the practical starting choice for either workload when you need signing and separate identity checks without paying for each sender. DocuSign Standard is the relevant team comparison when shared templates and permissions matter. Personal is unsuitable for this matched identity workflow because its plan table excludes identity verification authentication.

For the team, DocuSign becomes the stronger choice when an official Microsoft connector or an existing DocuSign administration arrangement removes a specific manual handoff. Choose neither for lender-issued documents that must stay inside the lender’s nominated process.

Plans and Total Cost

Annature bills sending separately from identity checks, while DocuSign combines sender subscriptions with envelope allowances and identity add-ons. An envelope holds the documents sent together, so two documents with two signers are not automatically two envelopes.

Annature’s pricing page lists unlimited users and email reminders. Identity verification has a separate usage charge, with optional screening charged separately. Text-message delivery and branded text-message links add costs, and Annature invites volume quotes above 100 envelopes a year.

Each annual DocuSign Standard seat contributes 100 envelopes to the account’s shared allowance. Monthly seats contribute up to 10 envelopes each per month. Identity verification is an add-on charged by attempt, and the five included checks are a one-time bonus.

The solo workload therefore needs 48 sends and 96 identity checks over 12 months. For the team, five annual Standard seats provide 500 envelopes across the account. Its 480 sends fit within that shared allowance.

Failed checks can increase identity-attempt usage.

Compare the Whole Bill

Use a 12-month, Australian-dollar budget for both options. DocuSign’s Australian pricing states that additional tax may apply. Compare the final tax-inclusive invoices first, then separate any recoverable goods and services tax (GST) consistently.

For Annature, the budget covers envelope sends plus identity checks and chosen add-ons. For DocuSign, it covers the required sender licences plus identity attempts and any excess envelopes. Add connector subscriptions or implementation costs to either service when the workflow requires them.

Uneven sending does not change the account’s allowance. The team’s 480 sends fit even if one sender sends 180. If the team sends 540 envelopes instead, 40 exceed the included annual allowance.

Monthly billing changes the timing of available sends. Compare the team’s total usage against the allowance for the relevant billing period.

Support has a separate operational cost. Annature includes Australian support, which its security assessment limits to Australian business hours. DocuSign lists round-the-clock live technical support under Enhanced Plans, which require a sales quote.

Signing and Client Identity

Both services prepare signing packs, route them to recipients and send reminders, but access authentication and identity verification perform different jobs. A code protects access to a signing session. An identity check examines evidence about the person using it.

Annature’s digital-signing documentation describes templates, recipient roles and signing order. Its editor supports fields with validation and conditional logic. It also describes changing recipients and access requirements after sending, including passwords and two-factor authentication.

DocuSign includes reusable templates and reminders in its entry-level signing plans. Standard adds shared templates, while Business Pro adds signer attachments and more interactive fields. Compare the plan that contains your required fields, rather than comparing product-wide feature lists.

DocuSign’s correction documentation limits corrections to an envelope awaiting recipient actions, with access held by the sender or a shared-access user. Completed or voided envelopes are outside that correction flow. Treat a signed document change as a new version requiring an appropriate signing process.

When an Identity Check Fails

Annature’s client guide describes identity-document photos and a selfie, with text-message authentication before the check. Illegible document photos trigger another capture. Its troubleshooting guide supports camera-permission recovery or switching to a phone when the original device cannot capture the evidence.

DocuSign’s developer documentation describes retry or rerouting logic for failed identity checks through a configured workflow. That is custom workflow capability, not a promise that every retail account includes an automatic recovery process.

Keep a failed identity result distinct from an unsigned envelope. Assign an authorised staff member to resolve it through the brokerage’s approved alternative process. Removing authentication simply to obtain a signature defeats the original control.

A service’s technical capability does not establish acceptance of a mortgage document. The document owner decides the required signing method, witnesses and identity evidence. Apply the lender’s instructions to its exact document, and use verification of identity guidance to distinguish the underlying identity task.

Audit Evidence and Record Control

Keep the signed document and identity evidence as separate parts of the file, even when one service collects both. A signing certificate does not automatically contain the identity documents or every verification event.

Annature documents groups and permissions, plus configurable retention. Its security assessment says customer documents remain in its Australian hosting environment, while some subprocessors can process limited data overseas. Local document storage therefore does not mean every processing activity stays in Australia.

DocuSign’s April 2026 data-residency policy includes an Australian region. Account provisioning determines the region, and the policy says existing agreement data cannot move between regions afterwards. Limited transaction data and some third-party processing can cross regional boundaries.

DocuSign’s ID Evidence documentation says personal data is not retained by default. An administrator chooses the identity information to store, and the API can export configured evidence as JSON or PDF. Decide what the file requires before sending, because a completed signature alone does not prove the required identity evidence was retained.

For either service, limit identity-record access to staff who need it. Record who can change templates, retrieve completed files and manage retention. Keep exported evidence readable after a sender leaves the brokerage.

Integrations and Daily Broker Use

Annature has documented broker-platform signing through Salestrekker, while DocuSign has official Microsoft connectors. A connector’s destination and data direction matter more than the total number of integrations.

Custom brokerage softwareAPI developmentYour application sends document and recipient data, then retrieves configured results and evidence
Download and uploadManual transferA staff member moves completed records from the signing service into the client file

Salestrekker’s documented Annature partnership makes Annature particularly relevant to brokers already using that customer relationship management (CRM) platform. It does not establish that every lender document can be signed through that connection.

For a fictional engagement pack, the documented sequence is preparation, recipient routing, identity checking where configured, signing and evidence retrieval. The final client file needs both signing and identity records. A status notification saying completed is insufficient if the identity report never reaches the file.

Third-party automation is another connection type, separate from a native or official connector. Its permissions and field mapping determine what moves. Keep manual transfer explicit when no configured connection returns the required record, and assign a person to complete it.

Choose and Pilot a Service

Choose Annature when flexible sends, local support and avoiding sender-seat charges fit your brokerage. Choose DocuSign when a particular Microsoft connector, shared administration arrangement or quoted organisation control justifies its plan and add-ons.

Neither service fits when the document owner rejects the method, the required identity evidence cannot be retained or the client cannot complete the approved process. Use the owner’s prescribed alternative in those cases.

After selecting the service, run a bounded implementation pilot on one synthetic two-document pack with two authorised signers. Use the following acceptance checks before sending live client documents.

  1. Record the exact document version and its owner’s accepted signing, witnessing and identity method. Keep the written instructions with the pilot record.
  2. Send the pack using the intended plan and identity configuration. Confirm that each signer reaches the right fields in the right order.
  3. Exercise a failed-signature or identity interruption. Confirm that the nominated staff member can see the failure and use the approved recovery route.
  4. Correct an unsigned recipient detail. Confirm that the version history preserves what changed and that the replacement notification reaches the intended person.
  5. Export the completed PDF, signing certificate and required identity evidence. Open them from the client-file destination using a second authorised staff account.
  6. Confirm the evidence remains accessible when the sender’s access is removed, and record the intended retention period.

Approve the service for the specific document types and identity methods that pass those checks. Keep lender-issued documents in their prescribed workflow until the document owner accepts your selected process.
